How to get to Manchester Airport

By Car
The airport is directly accessible by car from J5 off the M56.

When travelling to Manchester Airport by car, the Airport roads will display colour-coded cubes which indicate the best route to each terminal and its car parks. You will need to get into the appropriate lane as marked by the coded cube.

Manchester Airport is planning to erect large banner signs on the approach roads to each individual terminal. These will indicate which airlines fly from that particular terminal. The airlines will appear in alphabetical order, along with the airline logo and code.

Journey time from central Manchester 20-25 minutes.

By Taxi
All taxis on the ranks at Manchester Airport are licensed by Manchester City Council. In addition, drivers approved by the Airport hold a supplementary licence issued by Manchester Airport PLC.

Within the City of Manchester licensed area, the fare applicable is that shown on the meter, including any supplementary charges which are shown on the tariff lists. Outside the Manchester licensed area, the fare is subject to negotiation between the passenger and the driver prior to the commencement of the period of hire. However, all drivers holding a Manchester Airport licence have agreed a maximum tariff which is shown in leaflets available from the drivers and on the tariff boards displayed at each taxi rank. The drivers will be happy to give passengers receipts for any fares paid.

Journey time from central Manchester 20-25 minutes.

By Train
Manchester Airport's award-winning railway station is at the heart of the airport complex. Skylinks connect the three Airport terminals to the upper level of the railway station. The Skylinks incorporate moving walkways, and there are lifts and escalators at the terminals and railway station for easy access to all levels.

Running times of trains
Train services operate to the Airport every day, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 25th and 26th), from many stations in Northern England and the Midlands.

Many direct services are hourly from Monday to Saturday and most run a Sunday service.

Destinations
There are trains direct to and from Sheffield, York, Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester, Bolton, Preston and Blackpool throughout the night.

Passengers travelling from stations without a direct service will find regular connections to the Airport from Manchester Piccadilly, Crewe (for services from Wales, the Midlands and the South) and Preston (for services to and from Cumbria and the North).

There is a frequent train service between the Airport and Manchester Piccadilly. Six trains an hour run throughout the day, Monday to Saturday - and there are four on Sundays. In addition, there are services throughout the night. Many trains continue to Manchester Oxford Road and Deansgate.
